June 27th 2008: Nothing to help as Maria had asked to be the flag holder for this summer's Olympics in China but was told no by the Russian federation. "She wanted to be a flag-bearer but I advised against it," Russian tennis chief Shamil Tarpishchev said Wednesday. "I don't want her to spend three or four hours in hot weather waiting to march in the opening ceremony. We want her to be fresh, not tired, during her matches."

June 26th 2008: Wow, another stunner today in Wimbledon but unfortunately, this time Maria was the victim as she lost 6-2, 6-4 to fellow Russian Alla Kudryatseva, shocking the tennis betting world in the process..."I guess it wasn't my day. She just did everything better than I did. You know, she played much better. She hit the ball harder. She, uhm, you know, served and returned better." You can read Maria's full comments here

June 24th 2008: Maria was in action today in her opener in Wimbledon. She won 6-1, 6-4 againsr France's Stephanie Foretz. Up next for Maria will be Alla Kudryatseva...! More infos soon..!

June 22nd 2008: The draw is out and Maria is the #3 seed for the Wimbledon championships, Maria is already in London training hard. See the full draw here.

June 19th 2008: Maria is about to return to action next week in Wimbledon! In the meantime, she is already in London and yesterday was at a launch for a new Gatorade drink! See a photo here, here and here:)

June 3rd 2008: Maria was scheduled to play the week before Wimbledon in Eastbourne but dropped out of the event...looks like she'll go back to Florida for a few days.

June 2nd 2008: Wow, a very tough loss today for Maria, she was defeated today in the 4th round after leading 7-6, 5-2...she ended up losing 6-7, 7-6, 6-2 to Dinara Safina...:(
