May 31st 2008: Good news as Maria won her match today in the Roland Garros as she defeated Italy's Karine Knapp with a 7-6, 6-0 win, she will now face #13 seed, fellow Russian Dinara Safina.
May 30th 2008: Good news as Maria won her match today in the Roland Garros as she defeated USA's Bethanie Mattek with a 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 win, she will now face Karine Knapp.
May 29th 2008: Maria was able to start her 2nd match today but wasn't able to finish because of darkness.. She was leading 6-2, 2-3 against Bethanie Mattek and will resume the match tomorrow...
May 28th 2008: Well, Maria had a tough day today in Paris in her opening match of the 2008 French Open... She needed every ounce of energy she had in order to take out fellow Russian Evgeniya Rodina, with a 6-1, 3-6, 8-6 win..!!! She will now rest a little before preparing for her 2nd round, as she'll face either Bethanie Mattek or Madison Brengle.
May 27th 2008: In theory, Maria should be playing her opening match later today in Roland Garros, she is scheduled to play the 4th match on centre court. However, with rain coming down so far today, it's not so sure...

May 24th 2008: Well, the draw is out, Maria is the #1 seed for the French Open!! She will probably only play her first match on Tuesday. In her opening match, she will face Evgeniya Rodina, a 19 year-old Russian ranked #104 in the world. See the full French Open draw here.
May 22nd 2008: Only a few hours are left before they release the draw of the French Open that starts on Monday in Paris!!!! The draw is scheduled to come out tomorrow (Friday) morning.
May 17th 2008: Tough news as today Maria was forced to withdraw from the Italian Open before playing her semifinal match against Jelena Jankovic...it is because of a strain but she still plans on playing the French Open. “I don’t think so. It’s a strain,” Sharapova said. “They said I need maybe three days off before they test it again.”
May 14th 2008: With the shocking news of Justine Henin withdrawing, Maria has a good shot of becomming the world #1 if they take off all of Justine's points one week from now...!! Read about Justine's retirement here.
May 14th 2008: Good news as Maria won her match today in the Rome as she defeated Slovakia's Dominika Cibulkova with a 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 win, she will now face Caroline Wozniacki.
May 13th 2008: American magazine FHM made a list of the 100 sexiest women alive, and Maria made the list! She is #30. Ana Ivanovic(#23) and Anna Kournikova(#81) are other tennis players that made the list!
May 12th 2008: Maria was finally able to reach a compromise with the WTA over the fine controversy, read about it here.
May 12th 2008: Russia announced its line-up for the upcoming Olympics as Maria, Anna Chakvetadze, Elena Dementieva and Svetlana Kuznetsova will form the team. In doubles, Dinara Safina and Vera Zvonareva will play as well as Svetlana Kuznetsova (although it's uncertain who she will play with).
May 11th 2008: Two news today! First off, Maria will advance to #2 in the world rankings tomorrow!:) Also, Maria is scheduled to play in Rome starting next week, see the full draw here.
May 5th 2008: Maria is having a pretty public battle with the WTA about some fines. The 21-year-old Siberian has already been docked 125,000 dollars by the WTA Tour after withdrawing from this week's Berlin tournament, with the possibility of a further 10,000 dollars penalty if she does not provide a medical reason for her no-show. According to her blog, she could also face a fine of up to 700,000 dollars if she decides to boycott the WTA Tour's official promotional shoot that has been controversially planned to take place on the eve of next week's event on the clay of Rome's Foro Italico.
