January 30th 2007: Maria's first round opponent in Tokyo is now known as she will face Francesca Schiavone from Italy:) Also, it's now confirmed, Maria is back as the #1 player in the world, read about it here.

January 29th 2007: Good news as Maria Sharapova is back in action this week playing in the Toray Pan Pacific. In her first match, she will have a first round bye. You can see the full tournament draw here.

January 27th 2007: Unfortunately, Maria was defeated in the finals by Serena Williams 6-1, 6-2...

January 24th 2007: Maria defeated Kim Clijsters 6-4, 6-2; in the finals she will face Serena Williams, who's been making a great comeback so far.

January 24th 2007: Wow, a tough one today for Maria as she advanced with great difficulty to the semifinals of the Australian Open thanks to a 7-6, 7-5 win against promising Russian Anna Chakvetadze.... In Maria's next match, she will face Belgian Kim Clijsters in what should be a great match!

January 22nd 2007: Great news for Maria Sharapova as she won her 4th round at the Australian Open. She posted a 2 set win against Vera Zvonareva, a 7-5, 6-4 win that now puts her up against Anna Chakvetadze

January 21st 2007: Thanks to the surprise loss today by Amelie Mauresmo to the hands of Lucie Safarova, Maria is now assured of being ranked #1 in the world after the Australian Open ends! Awesome news:)

January 20th 2007: Great news for Maria Sharapova as she won her 3rd round at the Australian Open. She posted a 2 set win against Tatiana Garbin, a 6-3, 6-1 win that now puts her up against Vera Zvonareva

January 18th 2007: Great news for Maria Sharapova as she won her 2nd round at the Australian Open. She posted a 2 set win against Anastassia Rodionova, a 6-0, 6-3 win that now puts her up against Tatiana Garbin

January 16th 2007: Great news for Maria Sharapova as she won her 1st round at the Australian Open. She posted a 3 set win against Camille Pin, a 6-3, 4-6, 9-7 win that now puts her up against Anastassia Rodionova.

January 7th 2007: Maria's premiere opponent and world #1 Justine Henin-Hardenne will not be playing in next's week Australian Open. 'It is very unfortunate for her and you always want to be playing against the top players,' said Sharapova.
'You always want to compete against the best players but you can't expect everyone to play in every grand slam.'

January 6th 2007: Oh well, Maria's tournament came up a bit short as she was defeated by Kim Clijsters in today's final, she lost 6-3, 7-6.. we'll have more infos soon.

January 6th 2007: It wasn't easy but Maria did reach the Hong Kong singles final, posting a 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 win over Elena Dementieva! She will face Kim Clijsters in the final!

January 4th 2007: Maria and Patty Schnyder were defeated in their first doubles match, they lost 9-8(4) to Kuznetsova/Clijsters.

January 4th 2007: Maria started her tournament in Hong Kong with a win today! She won 67-5, 6-3 against Zi Yan and will now face Elena Dementieva, the #4 seed:) More details soon...
